What else can you do while BOINC is running

Let me start this off by saying that I don't know what's happening to me. I have become both obsessed with stats, and with trying to do as much as I can while running BOINC (which tends to cause lower stats).

Both my machines are running BOINC. One computer doubles as my television. I just finished playing a game of pinochle on one while watching Regis & Kelley and The View on the other -- and the wholle time -- I'm running BOINC on both. I told the other people at the pinochle table that I was running BOINC -- and they didn't even know what it is.

Maybe that's a sign....

You have become addicted--welcome to the club. We are still working on the t-shirts. 😉

I have played Guild Wars for hours without realizing that BOINC was running. If I try to play Titan Quest, I can notice pretty quick--the game has rather horrible response as it is--great game though). I've never found BOINC running to be the cause of an issue. Any slow down in processing or work has been attributed to something else.

And yes, it is a sign. You need to check to see if they have crunchers available. Assimilate more. 😀 Feed the addiction.

EDIT: Posting while tired... Blah.

rabrittain -- could you build several more machines, and single task them more + have more crunchers?

It's a sign that you're only in the early stages of DC & Stats addiction. It won't be too much longer before you'll be saying "Gosh, I think there's enough space on the counter in the bathroom for a PC too." That'll be after you've already got machines in the spare bedroom, the basement/attic, and the living room. 😎 After that, the garage will start looking good and you'll be concerned about temperature swings and physical security.

Hmm.. maybe I'm revealing too much about myself in all this! 😕

Maybe you should show him pictures of your basement at the peak of your stats production, Networkman! 😀

or maybe not, wouldn't want to scare him off......😛

😉😉
😀

Hi, I'm Ray and I'm a stats addict......

pinochle ?????? 😕

Pinochle ...(I think I'm spelling it right ... mabe not) -- It's a card game.

--> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinochle

very stimulating if you like cards, some people learn to play it in prison.

edit: I have 2 open ports on my router; they're begging to be used. Does anyone have a spare Socket A mobo, compatible with an AMD Athlon XP 2100+ ?

was wondering if you'd have time to explain, while you're running BOINC!
really, no offence meant 🙂
thanks for the explanation, never come across that before 🙂
and, again, no offense meant!!! 🙂

The addiction can be beat!

For instance, Mark W. shut down a few older rigs cause of electricity cost. He still has lots running though 🙂

Me, I can't wait to get the PS3 back from repairs - that's ~1,000 points per day :shakes and DTs;

I have a few, but they are PC133 (not DDR) boards. I don't know if they still run however, because they have been sitting in a box for a loooong time. They will only run Tbirds, or Paliminos (I believe a 2100 is a Palimino). You can have them for free, but I'm not bench testing the boards first. 😛

I have two PC3200 boards with 2.4GHz unlocked Bartons, but I'm keeping those should I ever get the motivation to rebuild them. 😱

I just did a couple loads of laundry while BOINC was running!

I'm hoping I don't have to shut it down while I make my bed!

Naaw...I'm not that talented😀

I do try to hit the boinc "Abort" button on my LCD though! To bad I don't have one of those touch sensitive LCDs.....could be very entertaining.

Hope you don't end up like Uppsala9496 😉

I discovered recently that if I overclock my systems enough, I can actually sleep while BOINC is running! I highly recommend that every one of you do some overclocking and try it out. You might be pleased with the results. 😉

I have experienced strange thoughts like some of the ones voiced above, but I thought that I was alone.

...

Is it a good thing to begin to feel as though I belong to this group somehow??

... and what's this about Uppsala9496? Would someone please explain, or ... am I going to have to search the whole forum for a clue? I don't have a clue.

😕

I'm pretty sure it's 'cause he's a new dad!😉
