Only started looking more in depth at this tonight, haven't found much more to do that wouldn't involve bills which I want to avoid.
Systems:
windows xp pro SP1, and an older system with 98SE, both with the basic free zone alarm, and proxmitron for pop up stuff.
Xp system also has norton systemworks 2003 pro with Anti virus. These are connected to router, which connects to my DSL service.
I've started manually handling cookies on XP system, which is more important for me to protect really, even though it's really just for games/school/personal stuff, nothing super important.....the 98SE wouldn't be a huge deal to reformat. (I have ghost backups on XP system, but still want to avoid problems.
No ports on router are manually opened, and I haven't scanned all 65k yet, but the first 1050 show as stealthed on online scan tests (no reply)
I read about proxys tonight, to block your actual IP from websites, etc. It seems like you need to subscribe to services for this, or there are so-called free ones, but from what I gather that seems shady/risky. Is there anything else that can give similar results?
Haven't ever had any viruses or problems that I know of at least, but only been on broadband for 6 months, just looking to shore up defenses I guess heh. (whole RPC thing got me thinking about this, even though that didn't effect me...did see numerous 135 port blocks in router logs heh)
thanks for any help/suggestions.
