What eeprom programmer do i need to get??

Guys,

I am trying to copy the eeprom from my friends ECU (Computer) in his car to the one in my car. I dont have the model number of the eeprom handy but i know that it has 28pins on it. kinda like an older bios chip. what kinda eeprom burner do i need to get to do this???

I dunno but you might want to find out as much as you can about it first as sometimes a security bit can be set to prevent reading the device. Very first thing you need to do is find out more about the kind of EEPROM in there.

Advin makes good eeprom programmers... not sure if that's what you're looking for tho, as they are very professional do-it-all programmers and sorta expensive

ok,

it looks like the chip is a 27C512-12. what if there is a security bit on it. is it non copyable??

also what is the cheapest programmer i can get that will support that chip and where can i buy it??

Here is a good site regarding this stuff. They even have their own message board, download area for data sheets, info on cross assemblers and such. Try posting on there, they may have more info. I don't know if that chip has a security bit or not, or if it was programmed in C or assembler. I do know its a 512k chip by its model number. Good Luck.

Just to add the 27C512 is a Winbond chip and is listed under supported by the programmer they show on there webpage as device of the month.
