Don't some graphics cards Dell uses come with those DVI/VGA splitter cables (i.e. one output on the card provides two interfaces via the splitter)? I know we had some GX270's with GeforceFX 5200's at some point that required a break out cable (that came with the machine). That's the only thing I can think of.

Weird.

My guess is that it's yet another proprietary Dell design that forces you to buy their special adaptor cable for only $49.99...

it should have come with a Y splitter cable to hook up 2 dvi or 2 vga monitors, according to a few reviews of the machine i found.

The slimmer desktop has two vacant, half-height PCI slots next to its half-height PCI Express x16 slot; the latter holds the ATI Radeon X300 card, which has a single DVI connector but comes with a pair of "Y" cables letting users attach either two digital (DVI) or two analog (VGA) monitors.

found this on dell's site after digging a bit:

DMS-59 connector, used in conjunction with the supplied dual VGA output dongle; dual DVI-I output supported through an optional DVI-I dongle.

which brought me to ati's site:

it's out of stock on that site, but if you search for dms-59 you can find a bunch of places that carry it.

DMS-59, aka "LFH59" or "LFH60" port. Compatible between most ATI, nVidia, and Matrox workstation cards, eBay average market cost is about six bucks, or shell out the $15 for a genuine one from ATI. :)

You didn't get the dongle with the gx280? Usually they package a dual vga and dual dvi in the box. Atleast all the ones i've seen have had them in there. I probably have 10 dual vga's dongles laying around the office since everyone is using dvi.

Edit:

Call Dell and give them the service tag and tell them you didn't receive the dongle with the pc, they should overnight you the part.
