What DVD regions can a PS2 play?

I don't really know much about it, but heard some dvd players can't play all regions, or are region locked or something. any idea if a PS2 can play a geion 3 dvd? thanks

depending on which ps2 version you have....
us version can only play region 1
jap version the first releases got hack that can be region free
later release of jap version can only play region 2
not sure which ones can play region 3 dvds... but i assume if you get your ps2 from asia somewhere you should be able to do so....

The very first PS2's that were available in Japan had some nifty software to play back all region DVDs (1, 2, 3, etc). Currently, all US PS2's play Region 1 and all Asian PS2's play Region 2 (I believe that's the region for Asia). There is a mod chip which removes region checking, but its only available in Europe right now and will soon come to the states.
