I am looking at buying a dvd player but the only thing is that I need it to be region free and play almost anything that I throw at it. The only ones that I know of that can do this are the Apex dvd players but I'm not quite sure about the reliability of them and the picture quality. Also I don't know which one to get?

Thanks

i will vouch for the quality of the APEX dvd players, the 1200 model anyways, i've had it lock up on me once in two years, and it plays mp3/cD/jpg/vcd the quality is nice and it's simple to operate, not feature chocked, but that's why it's only $40

I have a Norcent D300 and my uncle has an Apex 1200. They both play everything we've thrown at it. The Apex has a cheaper feel to it, but it gets the job done. I'm not sure about being region free though.

Bought the Norcent last week - for a cheesy player, its good to have. I made some very odd XSVCDs and it played them flawlessly.

Skipping around on a DVD - i.e. lots of x2 x4 forward and backward - will sometimes get the audio out of sync. The video quality definitely is not on par with higher end products. For me, I just wanted something that could play backups, and I'll fork out money for a nice one later on with progressive, etc.

Going through VCDhelp.com, the Norcent player @ amazon is the only of the cheap players that has nearly 100% strong and valid reviews. With most of the Apex players you'll find that odd bag that bought a dead one or one died within weeks, etc...That's what decided it for me personally.

Bought a nice Samsung DVD/VHS combo player back in February. Haven't had any problems with it, except some minor skipping on a few rental DVDs, which I cleared up with a cleaner DVD.
