I need to buy a DVD Player finally...i have been using xbox with my 51" Hitachi 51SWX20B and it has worked fine HOWEVER

using DVD X COPY XPRESS to "backup" my DVDs does not let you choose a speed option, and therefore it automatically burns at 4x, and therefore cannot be played on xbox (sometimes when you burn them on 2x they cant either but its like 50/50)

its very annoying and its not like its cr@p media....its memorex dvd-r

sooooo pretty much what I want to know is a great site for dvd player reviews or for maybe you guys to tell me what to look for in a dvd player...i know I need progressive scan, compatability with ALOT of media (especially memorex burned at 4x lol) and what else to look for?

one time we borrowed my uncle's JVC dvd player (i forgot why) and when we hooked it up to my big screen it was like widescreen but it didn't take up the whole screen like my xbox does (the picture was very skinny like as if you were playing it on a non-widescreen set)....and i know the problem wasnt the tv....i just want to make sure the dvd player I get won't do this...

thanks alot

You should use DVD Shrink for your 'backups'. (google dvd shrink for download)

I like my Panasonic DVD player, but any modern player will be fine for your needs.

I picked up a Pioneer 363-S player not too long ago and think it is great. They are priced very well and have a lot of features. Progressive scan, mp3/wma, DVD-R/RW/+R/+RW, it will play any media that I throw at it

I recommend the Panasonic S75, awesome DVD player with Component connectors.

I use a JVC 50BK. I like it alot, for 100 bucks it does a great job. My next DVD player will be a HD-DVD player some time next year.

Ok thanks for the input everyone!

there is one MAJOR question I have....how many of you that reccomended your dvd player are using it on a big widescreen rear projection tv?

any dvd player looks good on a regular tube tv however the quality/features greatly vary when used with a big screen....

For backing up DVDs this is hands down the best method here.. As for what DVD player to buy I highly recommend getting the Lite On LVD 2002. It plays every DVD format, and it also decodes MPEG 4 (divx and xvid). LVD 2002

lol thanks...but that way of backing up dvds is PERFECT if you have ALL DAy to do it lol that has like at least 500 million steps hahahahhaha its alot easier to not have menus/special features that i wont watch anyway and perfect video quality just by pressing a button haha
