What drive(s) to replace 2x74gb raptors?

I'm looking to upgrade my 2x raptors that are in raid 0... Are there a combination of drives, other than raptors & ssd, that will get me to that speed and give me close to 1tb of space?

or 2x the single platter 500GB seagates (7200.12)

but really, a vertex + 3 platter 1TB drive would make for a better buy IMAO.

If you can afford an X25-M + 1 TB, you'll be golden.

If not, the Vertex 30/60 GB or 2x30 in RAID 0 + 1 TB is a good alternative.

2 640 blacks, short stroked 150-300gb os partition, raid 0.

Total price 75x2 = 150 for ~8ms access times and 240+mb/sec read and only a hair behind that on writes.

Nothing less than raid 0 300gb velociraptors can mess with it. NOTHING can mess with it for the price.
I currently use a single 640 black with a 150gb partition, 120+mb/sec read writes and low 8's access time. Much faster than my single 74gb raptor it replaced (8ms access, 75mb write 65mb reads).

I'm going to be grabbing a second one for a stripe as soon as I have the cash laying around

A vertex or an intel SSD can "mess" with it. So would a single platter 500GB 7200.12
but yes the 640 blacks are very fast drives.
