What does "zeitgeist" mean?

I have to write an essay on someone who captures the zeigeist and how he'll make a good president

WTH is zeitgeist? I've checked wikipedia but I don't get it.

zeitgeist

Although I'd worry about why that would make someone a good leader.
They should set the spirit not follow it.

A person "who captures the zeigeist" is one who understands the day and age he lives in, patterns, trends, 'spirit', etc. Know anyone like that?
