Cyrillic is something you can pick up pretty quickly, since it's all phonetic.

I could...very slowly....read a Serbian newspaper when I was over there, but I had NO idea what most of the words meant. Still, enough of them had a latin background that I could usually tell what the article was about, if not the particulars.
