yes, and if you don't realize what it means spelled out, then it's another way of saying "I might have just gotten lucky. You can try by I can't guarantee results. "

What does "This belongs in Off Topic" mean?

Just to let you know, the "Hot Deals" forum is only for hot deal.. If you have any questions about stuff, about anything you can post them all in Off Topic which is read quite a bit and you can get lots of answers there.

LOL. Milkyman I was just going to respond to your post saying that B&M's def. is also signature worthy, but noticed you already took care of that. Nice.

It means try calling staples 7 times until you get a CSR who's stupid enough to PM AR price to a rinky dink yahoo store, not realizing they have their own rebate and MFR's rebate, stack 2 coupons on top of it, and get free shipping. ;)

Why doesn't everybody just say YRMV (Your Results May Vary)? That way, it actually makes sense, and could actually be applied to any situation without confusing the hell out of people?

Perhaps a brief section on common acronyms could be added to the rules and regs thread.

Just the super common ones like:

YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary
B&M = Bricks and Mortar
PM = Pricematch
IR = Instant Rebate
AR = After Rebate
FAR = Free After Rebate
MIR = Mail-In Rebate

P-X

Yeah, I remember when I first started "hanging out" in the Hot Deals forum. I had been a member for a long time but I never went into this forum. I asked what B&M means, but I didn't start a thread. I just asked in the middle of a thread. A few people were aghast that a Golden Member wouldn't know that and a guy or two came to me defense and said maybe I didn't hang out in the HD forum - true. I've always regarded YMMV as a little whimsical. It's another way of saying you are dealing with a bureaucracy and just how things play out for you may well depend on someone's interpretation of the rules, how much power the decision maker has, how that person is feeling at that particular time, whether they like you or not and other intangibles.

This is true but it would be nice if a sense of degree was bundled into YMMV. YMMV can range anywhere from legit deals that CSR's *should* honor to Brag and Moan posts about pulling the wool over a CSR's eyes. Maybe YMMV-1 to YMMV-5 :)
