What Does XP Store Account Passwords?

A friend lost her password, and I can't gain access to it, even with recovery password
programs, because also I believe a virus might of hacked the system to not allow the recovery, etc., or something to this effect.

Anyhow I took her drive out and put it in my box.

Could I delete either "C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\SAM" or "C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\SYSTEM" and get it so I can login without a password?

The first link is the one I use. I've used it with NT, 2000, and XP SP2 and it's worked without fail.

THANKS guys I just had to reinstall the drive, it was a friend who got hosed with viruses, etc...
