what does "wake-up" mean on NICs?

Probably means 'wake on lan' which is like, if your computer #1 is ACPI compliant and all, and your NIC is setup, if another computer #2 trys to access your computer #1 over the network while its off, it can turn itself on and boot up so you can access the files over the network.

Hey thats kinda funny... i guess that explains why my old p2b-ls which had wake-on lan would still light the LEDs on my linksys router even when it was off, while my new system dosent.
