what does TiVo need DVD System Software Engineers for?

Tivo'a System Software Group is looking for software engineers to help design and develop core platform technology components. This group plays a key role in TiVo's technology licensing efforts.

The candidate must have deep understanding of DVD technologies and standards, including features such as parental controls, region coding, angles, subtitles, etc. Knowledge of VideoCD technologies is also helpful. This position is ideal for someone who has recently worked on embedded or PC software to enable playback and/or authoring of DVD-Video or DVD-VR discs. Experience with embedded systems development, Linux and the Japanese language are all pluses.

Requirements:
* Working knowledge of DVD content types: DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-VR, ...
* Working knowledge of DVD encryption technologies: CSS, CPRM, CPPM, ...
* Working knowledge of DVD content encoding standards: MPEG-1/2 audio/video, AC-3, DTS, LPCM, ...
* Working knowledge of DVD media types: DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, DVD-RAM, ...
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Team player, must be able to work with multiple engineering and cross-functional teams
