What does this warning from Norton Ghost 2003 mean?

It also said, "The resulting disk will not be dynamic and may break an existing dynamic disk set". I'm trying to Clone my existing 80GB C drive to a new 250GB SATAII drive.

Also, while in XP Disk Mgnt, two things are different with this new drive than my other drives. 1. Layout shows "Simple", instead of "Partition" as with my existing C & D drives. 2. Type shows as "Dynamic" instead of "Basic" as with the other drives. What does this mean? Did I set it up wrong?

You might need to convert your new HD to a dynamic disk.

While in diskmanagement, right click on your new drive name... Like "Disk 1" (way on the left hand side.)

Then click convert to dynamic.

It will then convert it.

You can only convert from basic to dynamic, and you cant convert from dynamic from basic.


Your old drive must of been a dynamic drive and that is how it was ghosted.

Actually it's the new drive that shows as "Dynamic" and my old C drive I'm trying to Ghost from is showing as "Basic". Should I convert my old C drive to dynamic? What does this do anyway?

You can upgrade your old drive to dynamic, but their is a risk that the conversion will mess up.

Dynamic disks are said to be "better" because you have more control over paritions.
