What does this mean? (Memory Prob.)

Just got a stick of Micron ram from crucial, 128MB 133mhz CL3, and when I installed it in my board along with my other 128MB stick, at boot up my screen had funny patterns on it, and they changed throughout the boot up process. Once it got into windows there were green square dots in a grid pattern across the screen, and the mouse cursor was the same, but in it's own little box that you could move around the screen.

I shut down and took the old and new sticks out, and then put the old one back in, but when i powered on I didn't get any picture at all. When it got to windows the screen went from dark black, to a bit lighter black.

I shut down again, took the vid card out because it was so dusty, and cleaned the pins, and i used an air duster to clean out the ram slots. Then I put the vid card back in, and the old memory back in the slot it was in before i modified anything.

Well, i'm here, so it worked...

...but now some of my icons are black

the names show, they just have no color to them.

Anyone have any ideas? Do you think the new memory is bad? or is all this just a dust problem?

EDIT: Nevermind about the icons. Looks like it was just a corrupt ShellIconCache. So now i just gotta get the courage up and try the new memory again. I'm scared! :Q

Sounds like a funky video card to me...maybe try reseating it just in case installing the memory flex stressed the slot/edge connector/card enough to whack it out..
