That's the amount of 'heat' on your car from the cops, the higher the level the quicker they'll ramp up their pursuit.

Nah, it means you are hawt. The cops just want to talk about how cool your ride is, so pull over for them. You get bonus points for chatting with them

Yessir. Heat is bad.

You can paint it or change your bodykit, etc to lower your heat, but I wouldn't worry about it until the next level or two~

u never know, maybe the more heat u get, the more points u get.. i dunno.. btw i dont have the game, a friend asked what it was, i didnt know what it was, so i posted here.. but yeah, thanks wolfman

It's not necessarily bad, in the later stages of the game you need to involve a lot of cop cars to get by some of the missions.
