I didn't know that and just heard about it...but read this...

So there had been a bunch of Trump critical anonymous twitter accounts, including the @ALT_uscis
The feds actually DEMANDED from twitter that they reveal the identity of the account holder(s).
(ON WHAT INSANE BASE I ASK??? These are NAZI methods)

twitter in response vehemently refused to release the identity, pointing to freedom of speech and that this freedom of speech ALSO includes anonymous (or pseudo-anonymous) voicing of critical opinion. twitter sued the gvt in response.

The NAZ...I mean Trump brown shirt feds now have retracted their demand, and twitter on Friday dropped their lawsuit.

https://venturebeat.com/2017/04/06/...is-had-sought-verification-status-in-january/

http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-...-protect-anonymity-of-alt-immigration-account

http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2017/04...identify-users-behind-anti-trump-account.html

What puzzles me most here is what basis the brown shirts THOUGHT they have that twitter would reveal the identity of these anonymous accounts....merely on the basis that the guys are critical of Trump? This is incredible.

If that is their "logic", this must essentially make anyone posting on the internet, on a forum with "Anti Trump" at least a "person of interest" or sort of semi-criminal....so essentially the end of free speech.

This is unbelievable if you think about it.

What people fail to realize is that fascism rarely comes to power by force. It's more often than not elected by an cultish propagandized population fed lies and fear to fool them into thinking a more authoritarian approach will save them. The first thing the fascist government must do to cement power is stop free speech and opposing views. It does so by first discrediting the media, then using legal means to stifle dissent.

The next step? Purge unbelievers from the govt, obviously. Short of that, they get some to just STFU & not buck the new company line.

Think of it as a hostile takeover by a leveraged hedge fund that's basically a looting spree designed to bankrupt the target organization. In this case, the target is America.

Remember, Trump also wanted to expand libel laws and strip the citizenship from flag burners. This is a White House that has genuine contempt for free speech, so it's not surprising that it wants to silence online dissent. Good thing the courts aren't bending over... they may be our last line of defense against this kind of bullying.

Right out of the "Creating the Perfect Fascist State for Dummies" paperback that's been out since the neocons made headway into the highest offices of gov't.

What we're seeing now is only the beginning of what the Repubs learned from their experiences with their rule of the nation circa 2001-2008. It seems to me what they accomplished then is what they want to do in half the time, mostly due to their sense that in all likelihood Trump won't be able to secure a second term.

edit- I suspect their highest order of business is to reload the SCOTUS with as much young blood as possible before they lose the ability to plug in just about any person they feel will bow to their corporate powered influence.

A better explanation is that fascism and so on come to power by rewarding loyalty to party instead of law or reason, such that it's in the faithful's vested interest to support the regime. For example, loyalists aren't subject to such state reprisal, and often reap the benefits conferred upon loyal subjects. It's hardly "stupid" to support Trump if someone gains status from ethnic hierarchy or has certain behavior towards women to excuse, etc, just amoral/degenerate.

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

4. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

5. Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.

6. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.

7. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed
to the government's policies or actions.

9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

10. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.

11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

I've said it before that conservatives understanding and respect for the Constitution starts halfway through the Second Amendment and ends 14 words later.

The original better know list of fascist traits was written by Umberto Eco, who grew up under Mussolini: http://www.nybooks.com/articles/1995/06/22/ur-fascism/. A previous summary which also serves as a checklist for the Trump admin:

Let's examine the claims:
  1. "cult of tradition" -- make murica great again
  2. "rejection of modernism" -- them progressive leftards
  3. " Thinking is a form of emasculation. Therefore culture is suspect insofar as it is identified with critical attitudes. Distrust of the intellectual world has always been a symptom of Ur-Fascism."
  4. "In modern culture the scientific community praises disagreement as a way to improve knowledge. For Ur-Fascism, disagreement is treason."
  5. "fear of difference"
  6. " one of the most typical features of the historical fascism was the appeal to a frustrated middle class, a class suffering from an economic crisis or feelings of political humiliation, and frightened by the pressure of lower social groups. "
  7. "To people who feel deprived of a clear social identity, Ur-Fascism says that their only privilege is the most common one, to be born in the same country. ..The followers must feel besieged. The easiest way to solve the plot is the appeal to xenophobia"
  8. " The followers must feel humiliated by the ostentatious wealth and force of their enemies"
  9. " life is permanent warfare."
  10. " contempt for the weak"
  11. " In every mythology the hero is an exceptional being, but in Ur-Fascist ideology, heroism is the norm."
  12. "the Ur-Fascist transfers his will to power to sexual matters. This is the origin of machismo"
  13. "There is in our future a TV or Internet populism, in which the emotional response of a selected group of citizens can be presented and accepted as the Voice of the People."
  14. " All the Nazi or Fascist schoolbooks made use of an impoverished vocabulary, and an elementary syntax, in order to limit the instruments for complex and critical reasoning. "
Rather trivial to argue that american conservatism per Trump is just about the immaculate conception of fascism. Of course it's easy to see why fascists and friends would vehemently disagree no matter the facts & reality.

Need I mention the sedition laws during Lincoln's Presidency to the NSA monitoring your Library withdrawals and the overzealous abusing power when in power?
