What does the T and W stand for when zooming?

Hmm, that doesn't seem to make sense really, since T enlarges the picture, while W zooms out, and has nothing to do with the width of it..or does it?

Well can someone explain what width has to do with zooming, since the pictures are I believe proportionally enlarged?
