What does the PS2 firewire port do?

I have a Sony Notebook that has a firewire port, and my roommate just got his PS2, so I was wondering if there was any purpose for the PS2 firewire port or not. I plugged it into my notebook, but nothing appeared on the device manager.

Any thoughts on what it does?

Put a wire into it and it catches fire!

Right now it does nothing, there is no support for it (I think). Its pretty though...

sooner or later it will have dope devices that you can connect to it, like cameras and stuff... in addition with the harddrive/ethernet adapter coming out, it'll be a miniputer that can do all sorts of fun stuff. it'll be a while though untill we see stuff for it...

What, in turn, would that do? What advantages will that have? just curious.......

i have no idea. i doubt distributive computing is possible on it, and probably most games will never use the feature.

By the time any devices come out for it we will probably be using the PS4 or x-box 6.

It is for "iLink", which basically allows multiple PS2 units to
attach to each other and play the same game. With GT3 for instance,
6 players will be able to race against each other over iLink...
you'll only need 3 TVs, 3 PS2s and 3 copies of GT3. I believe that
Unreal Tournament is the only PS2 game which currently supports
this feature.
