What does the M in 8.5M shoe (mens) size mean?

I am looking at some shoes at macys and they have some sizes which have a M after them. I assumed it meant medium (normal), but they also have an 8.5 without the M (not for the same shoe..but the same brand).

Anyone know what the M stands for?

thats the shoe I am looking at..looks like they have certain sizes with the M and others without.

im pretty sure it stands for Medium. because i see shoes with 8W and that means wide, 8N means narrow

arent shoes normally medium width? if so, why do they need to advertise it is M

The shoe I am looking at, some have no "M", some do. I have similar shoes (same brand) that says 8.5, would I be safe in ordering 8.5M?

Well, B is breaking, D is dealing, and E is entering. XD

There are two scales for shoe width depending on manufacturer

n=narrow m=medium w=wide

and

a,b,c,d,e,ee with a being the narrowest and ee being the widest
