What does the i8042 port do?

This seems a little more technical than GH so I posted it here.

I've been having a lot of stability problems lately and when I looked at the event viewer every time there was an error it was on the i8042 port. My computer either freezes or resets randomly, mostly while I'm playing games.

So my question is what is the i8042 port and what does it do? Do I have a bad motherboard or is there something I can do about this? Thanks.

That's the PS2 controller. You either have a keyboard or mouse problem, or a keyboard/mouse driver problem.
