What does the Goverment have to gain by me quitting smoking?

I have wondered what the increased ads/warnings/info lately about smoking?

Do they really care about my health? Why the push lately for all the quitting smoking ads and such... I mean I knew it was bad for me when I started..

They don't have to pay to keep your more-diseased-than-the-norm ass alive when you're old and your lungs are failing? I actually don't know how that works in the States, but that's the case up here in Canada.

Actually, it's cheaper for a smoker to die early of cancer or emphysema than to live to an old age and collect medicare and SS. It's a myth that smokers cost society more. Their lost SS and medicare benefits MORE than make up for any medical costs related to smoking.
