Actually it does have a meaning. As you know, Toyota's been making the Land Cruiser in some form or another for decades. "FJ" happens to be the code name for the Land Cruiser, used within the Toyota corporation. They've used it since the beginning. I guess it'd be like Intel using Conroe as the code name for the Core 2 Duo's.

FJ was toyota's jeep clone back in the day. it has eventually become the full sized SUV we know as the land cruiser

the jeep wrangler traces its heritage back to a vehicle known as the 'jeep' made by willys-overland. willys made a version for civilian use known as the 'CJ' which is 'civilian jeep'. i think FJ is a takeoff of that

It is also Toyota's only current vehicle to use the name TOYOTA spelled out across the grille instead of the corporate emblem, another nod to the classic FJ40.

anyways.. Toyota has a naming system for their cars.

my car, for example, is codenamed AT200. My car is a 1996 celica ST.

the first alphabet signifies the engine. (the engine in my car is an A-series, 7AFE to be exac. In a celica GT, the engine is an S-series (5SFE), so that car will carry the codename of ST202)

the second one represent the model name. All celicas from each model year will have T as the second alphabet. the current celica is ZZT-231 (ZZ is the engine).

the last set of number represents trim/body style and model year.
my sixth gen celica ranges from 200 to the top-of-the-line AllTrak Turbo GT4 (ST205).
the fifth gen is around 180 to 185, and fourth is from 160-165.


The Corolla, for example, is represented by "E". the current one I think is ZZE-120. The famed 1986-87 Corolla GTS carried the iconic AE86.

pt does have a meaning. from wikipedia:
