What does someone do with memorabilia from an old relationship?

I'm referring to anything involving opposite sex friends that you no longer keep in touch with or flings/relationships. Pictures, notes, cards, letters... etc.

These old relationships don't necessarily have to have ended badly. You could have just grown apart at one point in time. Let's ignore the relationships where your heart was ripped out and you decided to burn every photograph.

Don't feel bad about keeping a memento or two from the past, your new significant other should be able to appreciate the fact that you had a past. Those old relationships are part of who you are now, should not be expected to throw eveything away.

Although I could, I will not subject them to that. :) Those, I can see the need to get rid of since I wouldn't want my girlfriend to have those kind of memories laying around either. At the same time, I wouldn't expect her to get rid of her past just because her ex might be in those photographs.

You throw it out. No reason to keep it as it will only cause trouble down the road when you new long term girlfriend finds it by accident and asks why you have been keeping it.

Oh, I don't feel bad about it right now. My girlfriend hasn't given me any reason to worry. I just thought about it because I have been doing some cleaning and have come across some old mementos of my exes. My last ex would've freaked out if she knew that I stil had all of this stuff. Even though it's harmless.

Ok, maybe I could see throwing out letters and cards and whatever. But what if you had photos are vacations that you were on or group photos that she might have been in. These photos simply represent a happy moment of your life, a memory that you may want to keep.

keep group photos

toss notes, photos of you as a couple, and cards

take items of value to pawn shop and get $$$ for them

my current GF got a few thousand dollars for the jewelry she collected over the few years she was with her ex

I have kept just about everything from my first serious relationship. I still have the photos and letters in a box. I keep them to remind myself not to make the same mistakes over again. This works but can be depressing at times.

One photo from back then is hosted on pics.bbzzdd.com

We may have a winner... Although, I don't think I have anything of that much value from her. Maybe the Dupont lighter, but I'm going to keep that.
