I've noticed (sic) in a couple of autobiographies i've read, mostly in Hitter (biography of Ted Williams). Was just reading the overclockers.com review of anandtech's book here and was wondering what (sic) meant or refered to or whatever.
It means that the editor has detected an error (can be a grammatical/spelling error) and has left it in it. (sic) is used to notify other people that the editor is aware of the error.
Well I can go back to bed now, I have learned something new. Just another person that always wondered what that meant but never took the time to look it up.
I was wrong - this is what the acronym dictionary says - "not an acronym: the Latin for "thus", used to explain that the original author really did make the mistake as shown"
