People get married, and then they "settle down".

What's that mean? Stay in one place? Find a stable job?

Don't think this goes in L&R cause its very general...

You don't buy airplane tickets to Zimbabwe on a whim and disappear for two weeks criss-crossing the country on a road trip.
Things take a little bit more planning.

A decade?

I think it just means being able to support yourself and/or the family, and plan for the future (kids usually).

"Getting serious" and having no life.
Oh, and you will stop listening to current rock music and change to Easy Listening to sooth your nerves.

Settle down means:

a) married, house, kids, no money ever again
b) STFU and pay attention to what's going on

I'm not going to settle down. I'm planning to live life to the fullest and push it to the limit like Tony Montana.

It's what happens when you knock Mosh up and her dad shows you his concealed weapon permit and then ask you're planning to have the wedding.

having kids will settle you down . You no longer have a life , but become an actor in a stage drama . Every day will become a new three act play .

No, having a family just means you have a different kind of fun. I love my life and wouldn't trade what I have for the single life...no way.

Heh. Having kids means it's socially acceptable for an adult to play with legos and other toys again. :)

It holds a different definition for everyone. For me, I'd say that anyone who goes from a life where big changes are frequent to one that is more consistent and stable for many years to come has "settled down".
