Hi I am kind of new to computers and I have seen the term rig a lot and I was wondering what does it mean or what does it stand for?

From Dictionary.com:

rig (rg)
n.
1. Nautical. The arrangement of masts, spars, and sails on a sailing vessel.
2. Special equipment or gear used for a particular purpose.

In this case, it means Special equipment or gear used for a particular purpose.

We like to compare our PC's to heavy equipment, and in some cases, they damned near are. Anyone here ever pick up a HP Netserver? :)

It doesn't stand for anything. Here's the definition from dictionary.com

Rig - Special equipment or gear used for a particular purpose.

Oh no-there's got to be a better way
Say it again
There's got to be a better way-yeah
What is it good for?
*?Rig? has caused unrest
Among the younger generation
Induction then destruction
Who wants to buy it?
?Rig?-huh
What does it stand for?
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
?Rig?-huh
What does it stand for?
Absolutely nothing
Yeah
?Rig?-I despise
'Cos it means destruction
Of innocent AMD?s
?Rig? means tears
To thousands of teens how
When their sons go off to stop
And lose their coupon
I said
?Rig?-huh
It's an enemy of all geek-kind
No point of ?Rig?
'Cos you're a geek
*(Repeat)
Give it to me one time-now
Give it to me one time-now
?Rig; has shattered
Many young men's dreams
We've got no place for it today
They say we must fight to keep our overclocked?s
But Lord, there's just got to be a better way
It ain't nothing but a heatbreaker
?Rig?
Friend only to the undertaker
?Rig?
?Rig?
?Rig?-Good God, now
Now
Give it to me one time now
Now now
What does it stand for?

Isn't the term taken from truck driver jargon? Semi trucks are referred to as "big rigs" and semi drivers refer to their vehicles as their "rig"s.
