What does psu coil whine sound like?

Does it sound like high pitched hard drive noise?

Also, is it always constant in pitch or does it vary (if so, what conditions typically vary it)?

kind of, but a bit higher pitched and normally not as loud.

Typically CPU or GPU load will very the pitch.
