What does Political Correctness mean to you?

Being politically correct in its strictest form is avoiding doing or saying anything that might offend somebody. IMHO, there's a baseline level of political correctness that amounts to politeness - not using slur terms, not using things that are meant to offend. There's also an ultra strict level of political correctness, where people will cry foul if you say something they don't like even if you meant no harm by it and it was, to your knowledge, not offensive. Those people should get over themselves.

its true theres a difference between the strictest sense and just baseline, and the middle path is always the most enlightened

but think though, most of us view the law in the same regard, speeding is illegal, downloading copywrited material is illegal, stockpiling ak47's is illegal, i know few who adhere to such strict requirements but is that right? why are there laws if we follow them only when the highway patrol is around to check the contents of your trunk?
