What does Network Setup Wizard even do?

I was setting up a small LAN for a friend of mine this weekend and completely forgot to even run through the Network Setup Wizard (was only the second network I've ever set up, the first one, at home, I used the wizard for). However it wasn't necessary at all. Both computers had a name already set, I simply hit Add Network Place on each system, added some shares from the other computer, and then went to each printer that was hooked up and gave them share names for the other system. You click on the share and it accesses it no problem.

So what does the Network Setup Wizard even do?

Sure if you are the Wizard.😉

However to whole goal of the wizard to help avoid extensive thinking.
