what does nappy mean?

the state of someone's (specifically a black person's) unkempt hair - as in just woke up from a nap and the hair's a mess

i think ...

Have you ever seen or felt a black person's hair? It's not the same as white people's... That's nappy.

Edit: Try to give an average white person an afro. It won't work. You have to have nappy hair to do it.

I think anyone can have a nappy head of hair. I've always thought of it as being hairy that is unkempt and dirty. Like if I wear a baseball cap all day and do yard work, then don't shower and go to bed and wake up the next day, I'll have some seriour nappy hair.

But I always thought nappy was spelled knappy?

You are talking about how coarse it is?

Coarse and curly, yeah. I've always thought of nappy hair as being synonymous with typical "black" hair. Until the Imus incident happened I never heard anyone try to use it to describe white people's hair.
