i have no idea. i just know alot of Americans are hesistant to use it.

MSG is literally meat flavor; umami. Monosodiuam Glutamate is a the salt form of glutamic acid which your body needs, lot of fitness people suplement with glutamate powder.

Anyhow, a lot of people say it makes the sleepy, or irritated; but, I think that is a crock of crap. You eat a lot of anything, you may get sleepy afterwards.

I had no idea it was to intensify flavor or whatever. Pretty interesting. I always thought it was like a substitute for salt.

Makes me think of this Korean restaurant we go to -- there's a shaker of MSG on every table.

it makes your food tastier. but it does so in an artificial way and it makes you thirsty afterwards.

As someone wrote earlier, it is the salt of glutamic acid which is an essential amino acid. The sodium is what causes you to be thirsty.

it occurs naturally in many foods, in very high levels in some like parmessian cheese.

i remember my mom used to tell me it would give you cancer. After awhile my dad said she was just trying to get me to stop eating ramen

I can tell when its in food. about a hour later i can not drink enough water. then i feel totally bloated and my stomach makes sloshing sounds when i walk....

I am not sure how much more clear I can make this than from what I have posted previously. Glutamate occurs in your body, you produce it and you use it.

It is natural and safe.

I do not think MSG even makes people more thirsty than any other food product. Those people are more than likely eating salty and spicey food (e.g. Chinese food) which makes them thirsty. It just so happens that the food they are eating has MSG.

Granted, everything is a poison it just depends on the dose so I suppose you could have some bad side effect if you eat 50 pounds of it in one setting. The LD 50 of water, I believe, is 15 liters - anything can kill you, it is just a matter of dosage.

I believe aspartame is much more harmful for you then MSG ever could be.

If us chinese people got headaches all the time, we'd be stupid

I just heard it makes your penis small.
Dammit-No one told :|

BTW, MSG is in a lot of processed foods too--look at the label!
