What does mean when your monitor does light flashs?

My 21 inch Iiyama has started to do what I illustriously describe as white light flashs with abit of a shrink effect as well.Perhaps like what a lightbulb does sometimes when they blink before death. At this time its only happening a few times a day for about ten seconds. Please tell me this is not the end, that its not dying? Though I've had it for five years, it cost be near a grand back in the day and I would like to get more few years of use out of it. Is trying to find a monitor repair tech usually worth it?
