The Mods call a conference. Anand sits at the head of the table with the Mods all around. The door is closely guarded by a rabid, hungry Red Dawn. The huddled masses of AT wait breathlessly. The door bursts open and some one shouts "It's Official! They ruled that it's official!", and huge cheer (or groan) rises from the crowd.

"Offical" isn't a word (although intuitively, it could be construed to have a meaning close to "of or relating to offal", but that's neither here nor there).. Now, back in the day, the brute force method of adding ***OFFICIAL*** and ***CONFIRMED*** to the thread title was effective, but both overuse and the lack of criterion for determining whether something was ***OFFICIAL*** or ***CONFIRMED*** led to its falling into disfavor. The sheer annoyance factor and occasional Mod lock resulted in its almost complete disuse. There was also some confusion due to the proliferation of unauthorized variations, such as "***OFFICIAL*** and ***UNCONFIRMED***", along with "***UNOFFICIAL*** and ***CONFIRMED***", and the antithesis "***UNOFFICIAL*** and ***UNCONFIRMED***", which led some to question the authors' very sanity, not to mention their own.
