I am applying for the job that this is one of the requirements:

U.S. Citizenship, and the ability to obtain a United States Government Security Clearance.

Now, what does it take to get security clearance?

An act of God.

Or 2-3 months, whichever comes first.

It depends on the level of clearance, how intensive your background investigation is, etc. You also have to have the need for it. You can't just walk into dss.mil headquarters and file for one, to my knowledge.

there are different levels...

i was given a fairly high security clearance for an internship with teh Navy, i think they spent about 7k dollars checking me out. i don't remember anything about the process though...

i assume the checked my criminal record (i don't have one)... oh they wanted to know where i had been for the last 10 years... it was a ROYAL PAIN IN THE ASS the form is like 10 pages long... They also wanted personel and work references.
