What does it mean when...

I'm interested in a 1990 Prelude and I've gotten this response from the owner when I asked about any problems.

Does it sound like a serious issue?

I researched and read a lot of people saying change your spark plugs first, so I guess that is what is causing the sputtering.

There's really not enough info, this is like saying "I know a man who says his knee hurts whenever he walks on it, what is wrong with him?".

It could be anything from simple tuneup needed, to something major like headgasket leaking, etc. Maybe see if he'll let you take it to a mechanic before buying to find out exactly what's wrong?

First thing is to make sure you're in the correct gear for the speed you're in lol.

Clean or replace EGR valve. Happened on a GMC Jimmy I had over 6 years ago and on my Honda Insight. The Jimmy literally wouldn't idle. It just caused the engine in the Insight to stutter under load below 2k rpms.
