What does it mean when the internet doesn't work?

...like webpages.

The other day no webpage worked, but I was still talking on icq/irc/msn and had stuff downloading from other sources.

No webpage worked in either Firebird or IE.

I've had other people complain to me about this problem, but I don't know what causes it 🙁

You need to change the batteries. The old Internet batteries are dead. But, word of warning, it takes a lot of them.

Geez, I told you to use Energizer! :|

As a symptom, if everything EXCEPT web browsing / FTP'ing is working... it's likely a DNS issue. Open your web browser and go to http://216.239.57.99/ to see if google comes up... if it does but typing google.com doesn't, then name resolution isn't working.. either you don't have valid DNS numbers or they're somehow not working - whoever assigned them to your machine (ISP, etc.)

how did aves2k post get above mine?!

daylight savings time - you posted at 1:30, aves2k posted at the 2:07 version of 1:07, but it read as 1:07 because Daylight Savings Time took awhile to register on fusetalk.
