What does it mean "to have issues?"

I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sick of this phrase. It seems to have replaced "Don't go there" as the borrowed idiom of choice from Oprahese.

It's almost as overused as "solutions" in the IT industry.

it means: there are prblems that you are not being told about right now, but if you do not findout about them without being told, you will have somemajor problems.

I've always interpreted it as meaning, "there's stuff going on that I don't want to tell you about, so leave me alone." Or if you're using it to describe someone else, it means, "there's some problem with xxxxx, but I have no clue what it is - and rather than find out, I'll just say he/she has issues so I don't need to get overly involved in whatever those problems are."

When talking about yourself, "i don't want to tell you my reasons." When talking about others, a slightly more polite way of saying, "Mr. X is fu**ed up in the head."
