What does it mean if my keyboard is staying powered even after my computer is shutdown?

Sometimes when I come back to my computer after shutting it down I see the ScrollLock key still has its greenlight on which shows the keyboard still has power. Wtf? Why would this randomly start happening?

USB keyboard? Some machines keep the USB ports powered if the PSU isn't either unplugged or switched off completley.

Uh oh, its becoming self aware. Better smash it to pieces before it starts posting on Anandtech without your knowledge.

Maybe your CMOS battery on the motherboard is dying.

Also, in your motherboard bios, if you don't use the option to WAKE on keyboard, you can disable that, and it may solve your issue.

I have the same issue. I use a USB KVM but only use the KB and mouse, not the video, and if I shut down both PCs the KB stays lite, which in my case is annoying because I use a Zippy KB that all the keys have lights! I recently hooked up the USB kvm and havent had time to fully play with the bios settings yet, so for now, I just unplug the KB and mouse from the KVM which is no big whoop as its easy to access. But if I dont, and both PCs are off, the switch keeps clicking back and forth which is also annoying.

My curiosity is that this only started happening recently and doesn't happen every time. It is PS/2 not USB lol. 🙁

Oh well as long as this rig lasts a couple more weeks... looking forward to building something new.
