while i was playing counter-strike, my computer just restarted.. i heard the sound of my harddrive turn off and on as my computer restarted.
the same thing happened while i was playing starcraft.
i have a overclocked system.. p3 733eb running at 825mhz at 150mhz bus
could this be a voltage problem? i only have a 250watt powersupply
i have a 40gig 7200rpm maxtor hd, cd burner, dvd-rom, videocard, ethernet card and floppy drive and thats it..
i thought maybe this could be a heat problem, but my cpu doesnt really go over 45c/114f, (75f when idle)
but my memory goes up to 90-95f when i have my case cover on
everything seems to run fine when i have a fan blowing in there (kinda ghetto but keeps my system much cooler)
i havent tried upping my cpu voltage. if i need to whats the max safe voltage?
thanx
latez:confused:

unstable system no doubt.

monitor the voltages using your motherboard monitor tool (ie asusprobe) for any fluctuations or out of spec volts would indicate a power supply issue.

I had the same problem.
For me the problem was a generic 250 watt power supply..
I replaced it with Antec PW and rebooting problem went away..

The fact that your system seems to run fine when you "have a fan blowing in there" seems to suggest that its a heat problem.

Although you say your CPU is not getting that hot (45c for an Intel chip is quite hot) you are running a lot of other things faster than spec (and so generating more heat), like your memory, motherboard chipset, harddrive, etc., due to the fact that you're running your system at a FSB speed of 150MHz.

What temperature does your motherboard chipset go up to?

hmm.. i dont know where to find the temp for my motherboard

oh.. but i did find something wierd...
the Vcore is at 1.664 volts.. i think its supposed to be 2.5
lets see.. my cpu right now is at 16c/60f, mem at 24c/75f.. sounds pretty safe (my fan is blowing at it)
my power supply is by antec.. i think its called "smartfan"
besides the rebooting thing that happens only when i dont put a fan on it, my system is very stable..
im on win2k right now, but i get the rebooting problem in win98se also, so it has to be a hardware prob

oh yeah.. forgot to mention.. the temp for my system at 733mhz is almost exactly the same

edit: hahahah.. Vcore.. duh.. didnt mention that.. yeah it was at 1.65. what was i saying when i said.. (i think it should be 2.5)???? hahahah

Up the voltage a tad. From what I see your CPU is running at 1.65v, bump it to 1.7v and I can say that the reboots will dissappear. Don't worry about "frying" your CPU cuz even Intel ups the voltage to keep their higher MHZ chips stable(except P4). The P3 1Ghz runs on 1.75volts(correct me if i'm wrong). Just make sure you have a decent heatsink fan.
