What does it mean for a DVD-ROM to be Region and Macrovision free ?

Hey Guys,

This is my first time buying a DVD-ROM/DVD Player and so I have no clue as to what all the jargon for DVD-ROMs/Player mean, so if you guys can help me, I would greatly appreciated.

Basically, I've seen terms like Region and Macrovision free. What do those terms mean ?

There are a standard of five regions for the DVD industry, 1 been North America, a non region frtee DVD will just display movies for its region, and a region free DVD will alow all region films to work, and Macrovision is to prevent you to record movies from DVD to K7, Macrovision free will alow you to record the movies.
