What does "Good Ol' Boys" Mean?

Yeah, it has to do with country guys. It's usually in reference to how they do business. At my work, I hear about how our early days as a company, things were done with the "good ol' boy" network. Meaning a handshake and who you know got more done than the bureaucracy of today.

Dukes: "Just a' good ol' boys...."

"Good Ol' Southern Boys," is what it should be. And it's because all us boys from the South are Good Ol' Boys. 😛

The context is: "Good Ol' Boys Network" -- Essentially, this is a term utilized for the way a management team works within a company. Getting promoted in one of these environments is essentially impossible because the "network" has their own criteria and unless you fall into the "network" or meet their criteria, you will not be accepted within this network.

Thats just the ol' boys network. not the good ol boys. The ol boys network refers to any group consisting of old fashioned older gents who dont like to change to new ways of thinking and dont like to let new or younger members into their group/club.

A guy who works hard, calls his mother and father, mom and pa, goes out with Sally, the blonde down the street, yeah..I dunno.

Edit:Or this website here.,

Where I come from (south) it means dumb hick. There are some good guys that go by the old code of the south, chivalry and all that jazz, they aren't bad, then there are the wannabes that want nothing more than to live in their trailor park, hunt gators with their huntin dawgs and smack around their wives.

. My dad would sort of use this term but differently like if he is talking about a business parter "He is good guy, etc" same thing really.

"Good Ol' Boys" is a term given to gentlemen, directed towards gentlemen of the south.

If you are in specific, referring to the Dukes of Hazard theme song, (Just the good ol' boys, never meanin' no harm) It's to imply that the trouble the boys get into isn't meant to break the law, they are just having a good time and the sheriff is looking for trouble.

I like B-A-N better!
I didn't want to elaborate, but...
though possibly having a different if not veiled connotation currently, the term was historically used in the South amongst white men fraternally. Unfortunately, during these early times, many of the progenitors of this terminology were racists and associated with the KKK. It is an offensive term by any standard, and I wish that people replying to the question had an inkling of what they were talking about. Just do a google search with the keywords good ol boys and KKK and you'll see what I am talking about.
