What does: Floppy Disk(s) Fail(40) mean?

I am building my new computer and right under where it says what is master and slave while booting up it says: Floppy Disk(s) Fail(40), then stops. What does this mean, I haven't hooked it up right?

Make sure the mini power connector is plugged into the drive and make sure the floppy cable is inserted the right way.

I just got that the other day while putting together a computer from spare parts. The cable was attached backwards on the floppy drive.
I had thought the red line always went towards the power cable, but I guess not on this one.
Try switching it around and see if it helps.

I had hooked up the floppy to the middle connector on the cable. When I hooked it up to the end one it works. Now I am installing Windows. I am building this computer for my neighbor, and it is going alot harder than it was for mine (mainly because I ordered the wrong motherboard and it doesn't support DDR, so I have an extra 256 MB PC2100 lying around. I would put it on mine but all of my slots are full. I am supposed to upgrade my dad's computer at Christmas so I am debating on whether or not to send the memory back for a refund or keep it and use it on his.)

That's a no-brainer; easy Christmas shopping! ;)

Happened to me too :)
I plugged the floppy cable backwards. Make sure u break the little piece of the pcb hanging of the edge of the floppy. Sometimes the manufacturers don't break it off too well and u figure that it doesn't fit that piece of pcb there.

Yeah, I won't tell him that it was just leftovers from the other guys, and he will be so pleased. :D

I really am going to turn this into a good machine. It is a PII 400 Mhz, 32 MB Radeon PCI, 128 MB ram.
