It's slower than the 9800 series or the 1.5 years old 9700pro, but still a great deal for the right price.
The 5900XT is nVidia's best price/performance card at the moment (high-end card and a not so high price tag), and rumors say production will stop soon.

It's not the best buy in a country where you can get a 9800pro for 220$, though.

I had a evga 5900se and sent it back for a 9800pro. The FX absolutely sucks running aa and af.

well, having a 9700pro i would disagree. the 5900xt/se is about the same or a bit faster at most things.. about on par with the 9800pro (YMMV but most ppl i talk to have it clocked to get 5900u performance or even slightly better). ps2 shaders are weak tho compared to both the 97/9800p.

gpu on my 9700 overclocks well, memory doesn't... but again YMMV.

the ati's are definately better in dealing with PS2 shaders, tho at this point it's more of a lesser of 2 evils; neither are really great. will have to wait for the next gen cards for that.

having a 9700pro, 9800pro, and 5900nu i'd say they're all great cards, just depends on what you are willing to spend and whether one might have some useful bundles software. comaptibility/drivers plays a part as well, especially early rev. 9700's and via chipsets.

bottom line tho, i think most people would be happy with the price/perf of any of these cards... they all offer a great bang for the buck.

In benchmarks the 5900 se wins some and the 9800 pro wins others.
I have one and I like it it runs aa at 1024x768 res and really doesnt slow down at all with it on.
DOing COD timedemo1
no AA with eax 3 sound 92.6
2xAA with eax 3 sound 91.6(game looks very sweet with 2x also , breathtaking)
no AA Miles sound 163
2xAA with Miles sound 156
Im happy with it but Admittedly I am going to return it most likely before the 30 days is up and get me a next gen card.
I could easily be persuaded to keep it if it had come with a decent game instead of splinter cell.

I like my XFX 5900 XT. It performs nicely in all games that I play including Farcry. There are some visual anomalies in Farcry from what I have heard but I have not noticed it yet. I just downloaded the 1.1 patch which is supposed to fix some performance issues, but also causes some 'blocking' in the lighting effects. Still it runs well and looks nice and I love the features of the drivers, including Digital Vibrance and shapening.

My BFG 5900nu (a bit faster than an XT\SE) performs very nicely and hasn't hiccuped at anything I've thrown at it.

Q: How does this card compare to a radeon 9800 pro????
A: 9800 pro > 5900SE/XT, in both performance (GamePC, XbitLabs benches) and price (9800P $210 @ NewEgg, 5900XT ~$175-190). According to the benchmarks, in some games and with AA+AF, the 9800P's higher price is more than justified by its higher performance. Whether that performance is worth it is your call.
