Computer Science.

so far I like it alot. only first semester though

I transfered from an animal science degree where I was a junior. When I graduate I hope to make enouhg money to pay my loans off before I retire.

in response to the guy who comented about being taught by people who couldnt make it in the real world , I have this to say:

At lawrence tech U many if not most of the professors either came from industry after succesfull carreers or are still currently working in the industry and teach part time. So alot of our classes here are down to earth.

as for CS and math. It took me 28 years but I am finaly starting to enmjoy math. I am curious how much you guys have to take. heres wqhat i have to take

intro to math analyisi
trigonomotry (i never took it in HS)
calculus 1
calculus 2
calculus 3
discrete math
stat 1 and 2 (not sure if this is math, but it uses math so im counting it)

CS... and I have yet to find a programming position. It was ALL peaches and cream while I was IN school (Teachers & Recruiters: "Ohhhhh yeah!!! You'll make $50-$60k without EVEN TRYING"). Then you graduate and realize the market sucks and every employer wants 30 years of experience and complete knowledge of every programming language ever created.

Should have stuck with EE... oh well. I guess teaching networking classes in a community college isn't THAT bad.......................................... <groan>

Got my degree in Mathematics and Computer Science, and I graduated just in time before the job market for programmers collapsed. Love my job, and I am very glad I chose CS (and the math helps, too).

BS CS & BS EE

EE was a waste of my time...would've had a much better time at college w/out the stupid 2nd major.

I am a double major working toward a BS in Information Systems and Mngt.

This time next year will have both.

Now just need to find out what I can do with either? I hate programing.

Started with Chemical Eng. ended up with Computer Science.
I was among the majority of CS majors who would say "I am never going to do coding for life". In my senior year I started to like coding(cause I hated sys. admin job) and I still like it. But for that I think you need hunger to learn new things and constantly try and out do yourself.

Computer Engineering, fourth year @R.I.T., 3 quarters of class, 1 quarter of co-op left. So next year at this time I will be just about done, looking for a job. I like it, but it is a lot of work.

(Oh yeah, just to beat anyone to it, it is supposed to take 5 years. We have mandatory co-op blocks (5 of them) where we work for a quarter at a low level job in our field. There are actually only 4 years worth of classes (12 quarters), but the co-ops spread it out.)

This is a VERY good idea! WOW! I wish my school had required work experience...that would CERTIANLY put a student @ an advantage later when he's applying! He'll ACTUALLY HAVE EXPERIENCE!!!! ;) This sorta gets U outta the Catch22/"KillerLoop" ;)

Man...I like puters so much that I almost wanna get a master in CS or something ;)

Anyone know a church or organization that needs a Minister/Network Admin? ;) heheheheh I really am lookin' for that job! ;)

I was a premed - (chemistry, biology, biochemistry, microbiology, and physiology) officially I have a double major: chemistry and biology. Yes, I am happy with my majors. Medicine, helping people, is a noble profession.

<< B.A. History and Spanish (Double Major), Texas A&M University.
J.D., University of Houston (in less than 2 weeks).

Not real happy with my undergrad major...

Avoid liberal arts at all costs...

I don't know? Seems your being able to say "si habla espanol" will greatly increase your client base. Very good IMO.

Major: Political Science
Minor: History
Didn't do anything with it. Waited tables for a few years and started messing with computers. Got an entry level destop setup job 5 years ago with a it company and am a network engineer 5 years later. actually, just lost my job as the company folded but I am getting ready to start my own computer business. that's another thread tho......:)

Major: English [teaching track]
Minor: Comparative History of Ideas [thinking of double-majoring though]

I love both of them, but some of the semantics in English gets a little bit boring. :p

in England you can 'barely' switch degree courses. I'll be doing a BS in CS that will take 4 years as I am doing a year in Industry for my 3rd year. Come back to finish it off. Then I 'might' do a Masters Degree in something else. I might do one in mangement or Finacial Banking or something interesting.

Originally was going for a Poli Sci/Criminal Justice Bachelors Degree. Dropped out after 3 years and settled for a CJ Associates Degree. I have enough upper level credits in Poli Sci, Criminal Justice and Spanish to get my triple major in 4 years of going to school @ 15 semester credits a year. Just finishing up a 4 year degree for two reasons:
a) The Army is paying 75% of my tuition
b) I need a 4yr degree to go to Law School after retiring from the Army.

Never have applied my CJ degree in the workplace. But the sociology influence in my CJ degree helps me understand some of the various younger troops I need to work with.

Computer Engineering, and Mathematics, I love mathematics...

Computer Engineering has a lot of mathematics, beware, but you don't need to be "great" in mathematics to pass on...

Might do a Masters in Business if I ever finish school.
