Completely hose your install, forcing you to format c: and reinstall the OS.

Besides that, nothing. ;)

(I think they finally fixed that bug though, honestly. But stick with Nero)

If you uninstall Cheesy CD Creator in Win2k it's possible to loose your CD drives from my computer and have to do a reg hack to get them back. Nero unfortunately doesn't do this ;)

In spite of the naysayers . . . I prefer ECDC 5 Platinum . . . updated with the XP patch because it does do one H-U-G-E thing for me that Nero is not even planning on. That is, in Spin Doctor, you have the capability to digitize analog music from tapes, LP records, etc. Nero doesn't even dream about doing that.

All the other BS is simply a reflection of user preference . . . and that is what makes horse races. :)

Sound Recorder can do that, and it is included with all Windows versions :p

This is both a question and a comment. I am only familiar with MusicMatch Jukebox and I just downloaded version 7.0. It has the capability of pulling music from analog sources like tapes, vinyl, etc. also--at least it says it does.

My question is that I'm about to move from the "free" version to the paid one, so I want to know if there is something dramatically better (such as Nero?) out there. I'm not a real sophisticated user, but would like as many bells and whistle as possible ;-). Also I would like to have the best music cataloging capabilities possible.

TIA for any feedback.

Just proves that Nero doesn't really deserve all the worship it gets around here like it's the second coming. I personally never bought into it.

I'm another user that tried Nero first then tried EZCD5.

I preferred the interface of EZ CD5, combined with the very easy learning curve and never looked back ;)

I have been using EZ CD5 since getting my first "burner" in March/April 2001 and have no complaints with it so far either.

However, I know that the "same" software does vary for some people and can have disastrous effects on some systems. Take Windows ME for example - best OS from Micro$oft that I have ever used. I think I only ever had one bluescreen and that was due to my CDR jumpers being on the incorrect setting (master/slave etc).

However, I have a friend who is using Windows ME and he had endless trouble with it and reverted to Windows 98.

I'm not sure if that has something to do with his system being Intel based or not - but my two systems below run perfectly with ME and EZ CD5 ;)

I get tons of problems with EZ CD burning software and the easiest thing to do to remedy the situation is to install Nero on the computer in question.

I know a handful of people that are using this software (EZ CD5) to burn CD's etc and nobody that I actually know (personally!) except the "Nero" crowd seem to have any complaints about this software at all

I actually got a copy of Nero with my new Buslink 16x10x40. I'll check it out and see what it is like - but as mentioned before EZ CD 5 works flawlessly for myself and others that I know personally.

Just think logically - would the brand name manufacturers really include it with their hardware if it was "really" as bad as the Nero guys seem to make it out to be?

I'm not biased - I'm just giving an objective opinion of a piece of software that does the job it is supposed to :).........well for me anyway :D

Never had a problem with either EZCD or Nero. EZCD's interface is more polished, however functionally there is little difference between them. The biggest difference I've seen is that OEM copies of EZCD will work with any CDR/W drive, while OEM copies of Nero will only work with drives of the same brand that the OEM copy came with. Which is a moot point for someone buying the retail package.

And for both packages, the recording and editing applets that come with them are suitable for newbies or casual users only. Anyone who cares what their recordings sound like would use better tools like Cool Edit Pro or Sound Forge.

IMO choosing between EZCD and Nero boils down to a matter of cost - retail package Nero costs $50, EZCD costs $80. So Nero has the advantage there. I also think that's why you are seeing more burners come packaged with Nero - I'm sure it saves the burner company money, and has nothing to do with the relative merits of each actual program.

Well for the Nero "posse" see if you can help this guy out with his problem:

<< this is to all those who are having "skipping" problems:

I burned a 700mb cdrw yesterday that skipped like crazy on every mp3. Thought it was my JVC going bad...like others have claimed. Tried a regular store bought Metallica CD and NO SKIPS. My next thought was bad cdrw medium. Full erased the disk and reburned with Nero 5.5 and still skips. Now I was pissed. Decided to rule out the burning program. Tried CDRWin 3.8f on the same full erased 700mb 10x cdrw and.....NO SKIPS..at all!!

Thus, I believe in my case...Nero 5.5 was the problem. and others maybe are having the skipping due to Nero 5.5 as well. Just thought I would share. BYW...I have had my JVC installed and using it 2 to 3 hours everyday since Mid-June 2001. And It is the best HU I have ever owned. Later....
