What does "dx9 card" mean?

What does direct x 9 ready mean? I thought all cards worked with direct x 9 all I had to do was install it????

It means that the card supports the core DirectX 9.0 features (as determined by Microsoft) at the hardware level. Other cards can be DirectX 9 compatible but some features will be missing and/or will run slower because the hardware doesn't natively support them.

They are not. nVidia currently does not have a DirectX 9 card on the market (Though the GeForce FX will once it arrives in bulk).

ATI's Radeon 9500 and higher (9700) are DirectX 9.

The following Nvidia cards are DirectX9 based:
GeForce FX 5200, 5200 Ultra, 5600 Ultra, 5800, 5800 Ultra.

They should all be hitting the shelves soon.
