What does clearing the CMOS do?

That means resetting right? How is that done on a Asus A7V333?

Thanks

yes. it resets all the BIOS settings to default. there should be a jumper on the board that you short out with the power off. check the manual...if you dont have it, grab it online. the jumper is generally near the bottom right of the mobo...when your facing it. might even be labeled as CMOS or something.

Ok thanks, but cant i just go into BIOS and hit default settings... or is clearing the CMOS for times when i cant get into the bios at all?? 😕

Thanks

sometime its necessary to do a hardreset...for example, when you overclock, the pc might not boot the next time because of the aggressive settings in the BIOS. of course if it wont post, you cant get into the BIOS to change the settings...thus a nice hardware reset is in order 🙂
