What does checking/unchecking do in itunes? Am I missing something here?

The main thing I use it for is designating which songs to sync with my iPods. I have years of Howard Stern shows I don't want to transfer, so uncheck them. There's a setting that lets you transfer only checked items.

Winnar. I keep full CDs in my iTunes rather than only keeping/ripping the songs I'm going to listen to but I just uncheck any songs that I frequently skip or just don't want to come up randomly... like doubles from different CDs (ie: most of the Beatles 1... since I have all the other albums anyway).
